I have no idea why, but Mr. Bunting possessed a strong love-hate relationship with all our tissue poms. He loved and appreciated them as decorations, but he loved to hate them as objects. I don’t think I’ll ever understand, but it’s almost like Mr. Bunting was the one who personally had to count sheets of tissue paper, fold, cut, and fluff  all those colorful poms. Which is just silly talk, because aside from the fluffing party we had at the rehearsal dinner, it was my fingers who labored so intensively over these delicate creations. Alright, alright, Mr. Bunting did help fold a few (after he was kicked off cutting duty for failed quality control checks), but he later admitted to me that he got away without fluffing a single pom. That sneaky devil. So why, then, was he so keen on destroying my pretty poms? He claims he only hates them on my behalf (they were rather tedious and frustrating) but I secretly think he just loves the idea of shredding a brightly colored ball of tissue paper. When we started pulling down the decorations, including the poms, Mr. Bunting got a devious glint in his eye and zeroed in on them like a lion to its prey.

At first I tried to rescue them.

And then I realized that they were exceptionally fun to throw at other people. Namely my new husband.

Soon, we each had an armful and, with our photographers at the ready…

…we released them into an explosion of color. Glorious, colorful, wonderful poms!

Mr. Bunting immediately pounced on the aftermath.

We may be the Buntings, but he clearly has some cat in him! I couldn’t bring myself to shred any of the poms I had worked so hard on for months, but we sure had fun tossing them over our heads. Not only was it a moment of pure spontaneity, but it left us with some fun photos! And for the pom activists, there’s no way we would have been able to save them all for re-use because they really don’t transport well once fluffed. But a handful of them did survive and are now hanging in our basement and one of our guests also happily adopted a couple, so they DO live on!

• Cookies were had by all, and they were as delicious as they were beautiful.

Some of you may remember the fabric garland I DIYed and my general plan for the cookie table at the park. Well… it turned out beautifully. I didn’t get a chance to see the full thing assembled in person, but these photos assure me it was amazing (and not to mention delicious!).

There were budvases filled with craspedia and hypericum berries and old porcelain and china plates to hold all the yummy cookies.

We used a borrowed old door to add texture to the table surface, with a custom-cut piece of plexiglass on top so we wouldn’t have to worry about the door’s bevel cuts.

We also had little glass birds and hand-sewn fabric hearts.

The little fabric hearts were all created by my grandma, who cut, sewed, and stuffed each one individually. She did a spectacular job, and I loved having these scattering on the tables of the park and at the reception.

Saltwater taffy filled the two apothecary jars. Yum!

On the opposite side, we had a refreshment table with fresh lemonade and water. Perfect for a hot summer day!

Whoops, we were supposed to take the “Just Married” sign I made and use it in some photographs, but it completely slipped my mind. It still looks good here, though!

My beautiful cousins made sure that everyone’s glass was filled with a cold beverage.

The cookie choices were chocolate chip, molasses, double chocolate, and white chocolate macademia nut.

Our guests mingled and discussed how gorgeous I was while they enjoyed their refreshments. Okay, I admit I have no idea what they were talking about, but I’ll just pretend they said nothing but amazing things about the bride. Alright, and the groom. Marriage is about sharing, right?

People really loved the paddle fan programs I had made, especially since the weather was so wonderfully warm.

Nothing by smiles and laughter all around!

That wonderful woman in the pink above is Grandma Bunting, who sewed all the fabric hearts and our table runners (which you will see in another post!)

Although Mr. Bunting and I weren’t there in person at the time, everyone seems to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I just love how happy everyone looks in our photographs. This last photo about sums up my feelings towards our cookies & lemonade at the park idea. Yay, success!
